On Monday, September 14, Justin and Lauran Tuck held their 8th annual Tuck’s RUSH for Literacy Season Kickoff at Alliance Academy. Alliance students in grades 6-8 were given 5-6 summer reading books to keep them engaged during their time off. Now that school is back in, Justin and Lauran are challenging each student write an essay about the books they read on the theme “Giving Back”. Students listened to authors Maurene Goo (Since You Asked) and Graciela Tiscareno-Sato (Latinnovations) speak about their experiences as authors and how important literacy is to be successful not only in school, but also in life. Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Antwan Wilson showed his support by joining in on the fun!
